Obituary

A Part of Ralph Wetherspoon, Jr. Life Journey - "See You in the Morning" Ralph Wetherspoon Jr. was the first born of Ralph Weatherspoon Sr. and Clora Mae Weatherspoon on July 9,1943 in Parkin, Arkansas. The family left Arkansas in 1949 where they settled on the South Side of Chicago. Ralph attended Daniel Hale Williams Elementary School and went on to graduate at the top of his class from Dunbar High School. His best friend there Curtis Osborne. Ralph learned about Jesus Christ at an early age when his mother (Madear) would take the entire family to St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Louis Henry Ford. Ralph officially accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 25 when he joined the Fellowship Baptist Church after hearing Reverend Clay Evans preach his message of the day which deeply moved Ralph. In addition, he joined the church choir. Ralph was a founding member of the Expression of Soul, Lou Della Evans & The Traditional Choir, the GMAC & True Voices of Christ Concert Ensemble as well as serving as the TVOCCE's business manager. His nickname, Drydale! Whenever we had a family gathering Madear would ask us to sing. All eyes turned upon Ralph and he did not disappoint us. His boundless energy and enthusiasm while singing spiritual songs got us all fired up. Ralph being the thoughtful individual that he was, always thought of others and sent a card or called family and friends on their birthdays. So, on his 80th birthday (July 9th) Reggie and the family made sure he enjoyed his. Ralph retired in 2009 from the University of Chicago as Supervisor of Housekeeping for the International House. Where he went on to enjoy his golden years. Ralph's weekly visits to the movie theater was especially entertaining to him where he indulged himself in seeing the latest action packed and science fiction movies. Ralph began having health challenges and Rev. Reggie (brother) stepped up and provided whatever assistance and comfort he could provide. Rev. Reggie took him in to more closely oversee his health care. He leaves to cherish in loving memory his mother Clora Mae Baker, 5 brothers, Johnny (Sharon Caldwell), Ray (Lavonia), Ricky (Jeanette), Terry and Richardo Weatherspoon; 3 sisters, Maxine (Ronald Clark), Annette Madison and Renee Weatherspoon. Cherished friend (brother) Pastor Reginald E. McCracken Jr., cherished cousin Bobbie Patillo and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Remember me as you pass by, as you are so once was I, life up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. "See You in the Morning" .
